‘The Legend of Korra’ star Naya Rivera’s daughter was born with rare genetic condition
Posted February 02, 2018 06:13:00 Naya Cruz Rivera is the daughter of legendary musician and songwriter Naya Dez Rivera.
She was born without a vagina or uterus, and her father had to have a hysterectomy when she was 10 months old.
“She has no idea what that’s about, but she is going to grow out of it,” her mother, María, told The Associated Press in an interview.
“When she has to pee, she can’t stop peeing because she has no uterus.
She can’t feel the urge to pee.
She will pee for hours.
She doesn’t know what that is about, so we’re going to make sure that we educate her.”
Dez was also a pioneer in hip-hop, and he has since passed away.
Naya, who is in her first year of kindergarten, has learned to use a wheelchair and was born in Mexico City, where she lived with her mother and grandmother.
Her mom, Maricela, says the surgery cost about $200,000, and she plans to continue to educate her daughter.
“Naya’s going to be an inspiration for her, and we’re very happy that she’s doing well,” she said.
“I know she wants to become an artist, so that’s what we’re hoping for.”
In the future, Naya plans to travel and teach, and the family plans to have her own band.
“We want to see her perform and learn,” her mom said.
But it will be a long road.
“It’s going be a big deal for her to be able to have children, but we’ll see how she does,” Maricelas said.
When Naya first learned she was born, she said she thought it was a joke.
“At the time I didn’t understand it, because I didn´t think it was funny,” she told the AP.
“But I think she is the one who understands.
She has a sense of humor, and I’m happy she is happy.”
